Jan De Nul Group gains project in Iraq

28 January 2010 – Jan De Nul Group signed the contract for deepening the Umm Qasr Port, situated in the most southern tip of Iraq, near the border with Kuwait.
This commercial port is Iraq’s gate to the Arabic Gulf and Iraq’s lifeline for import of mixed cargo and bulk goods.
Through the years, the port slowly silted up and Jan De Nul Group now has to deepen it to -12.5 m.
The contract is worth 52 million Euros and for 8 months, it will put 1 small and 1 medium sized trailer hopper dredger to work. Client is GCPI (General Company for Ports of Iraq). The signing of the contract is the result of months-long negotiations.
Extreme attention has been given to the safety of crew, staff and vessels.

That is exactly what Jan De Nul Group is well-known for. More and more, Jan De Nul Group is also specializing in services for the offshore oil and gas industry, with purpose-built equipment.
Also with regard to civil engineering, the group is one of the largest contractors in Belgium. Furthermore, Jan De Nul Group has a separate environmental division, Envisan, which specializes in soil remediation, groundwater redevelopment and cleaning and protection.
Thanks to the supporting services of the dredging, civil and environmental division, Jan De Nul Group is able to perform large-scale projects to our clients’ satisfaction, whether this concerns a Palm Island in Dubai, a new port facility in Australia or the largest wastewater treatment plant in Europe.
