Starting shot for the construction of the Leiv Eiriksson

On 27 August 2008 the keel laying of the trailing suction hopper dredger Leiv Eiriksson took place at the shipyard Construcciones Navales del Norte in Sestao (Spain). The Leiv Eiriksson is the identical sister vessel of the 46,000 m³ Cristóbal Colón, launched on 4 July 2008 and currently being completed at La Naval.

The keel laying is an important step in a ship’s construction. As from now, the construction on the slipway of this mega dredger can proceed.

Launching of the Leiv Eiriksson is foreseen in July 2009, delivery early 2010.

The shipyard La Naval has currently 4 orders of Jan De Nul Group under construction: the hoppers Cristóbal Colón and Leiv Eiriksson, the fallpipe vessel Simon Stevin and the recently ordered trailing suction hopper dredger with a capacity of 30,500 m³.
The keel laying of this vessel is foreseen on 1 October 2009.
