Beatrice OWF Cables Scour Protection, United Kingdom

The Beatrice site covers an area of up to 130 km² and consists of 84 offshore wind turbines with a total capacity of 588 MW and two High Voltage Alternating Current (HVAC) Offshore Transformer Modules (OTM). During the installation of the inter array cables in 2018 the ‘Simon Stevin’ was mobilised to install rock material on the inter array cables

Water depths in the area range from approximately 38 m LAT in the South of the field to 60 m LAT in the North. A total of more than 200 rock berms were installed spread over 45 inter array cables between the different turbines requiring 72,500 tonnes of rock. The scope of work was executed by Jan De Nul as a subcontractor to Seaway Offshore Cables and was required to protect the inter array cables where they were not buried deep enough below the seabed.
