Construction of the largest hospital in Belgium kicked off
The construction of the new Grand Hospital of Charleroi was kicked off on Friday 26 April 2019 in Gilly, in the presence of the client, the entrepreneur Franki-Jan De Nul and many local personalities. This new hospital will consolidate the current five hospitals into one large entity on the site of Viviers, a former coal-mine in the northeast of Charleroi.
With 900 beds, this Grand Hospital of Charleroi will be one of the largest hospitals in Belgium. The total investment is of the order of 500 million euros. The 145,000 square metre complex is built on a plot of 17 hectares and will have an underground parking for 1,500 vehicles. The contractor, a joint venture of Jan De Nul and Franki, began construction works in early February 2019. The inauguration of this new Charleroi Hospital is scheduled for the spring of 2024.
