Jan De Nul installs railway bridge in Kuringen

The Albert Canal, being the most important waterway in Flanders was in need of modernisation and further expansion. To make more inland navigation possible, the Vlaamse Waterweg nv asked Jan De Nul and other contractors to replace two railway bridges over the Albert Canal in Kuringen with one new arch bridge. The works started in 2019 and were completed in 2021.

The new arch bridge has a vertical clearance of 9.10 metres, two metres higher than the old bridges. At the bridge, the canal was widened from 50 to 86 metres. On the bridge, a wide bicycle connection was also constructed to cross the Albert Canal.
