Jindo Jeju, South Korea

Two submarine cables with a length of over 100 km have been installed between the island of Jindo and the island of Jeju, located in the south of South Korea. The cables required rock protection for about 30 % of the route for which the ‘Joseph Plateau’ was mobilized in the summer of 2019.

The rock berms had a different length and height depending on the water depth (ranging from 27 m till 157 m) and the expected current at the rock berm location on the cable route. A total of 370,000 tonnes of rock have been installed in 12 trips in less than 3 months. Rock loading was performed in a nearby harbour with local sourced rock which was loaded on board of our vessel by using the vessel specifically designed conveyor belts.
