Port expansion in Fujairah, UAE
The port authority awarded the works for the Dibba Bulk Handling Terminal Project to the consortium of Six Construct and Jan De Nul Group. Within this design & build contract, the consortium was responsible for dredging the harbour basin, constructing the breakwaters and two quay walls, together good for an extra 765 m of berthing space. Furthermore, the consortium provided foundations for ship loading rails and harbour infrastructure, utilities and navigation aids. The nearby fishing port also needed a new location just outside the bulk transhipment terminal. For this, the consortium carefully repaired their mooring pontoons.
The works ran for 19 months. For this project, Jan De Nul mobilised the two trailing suction hopper dredgers Francis Beaufort and Francesco di Giogio, and the cutter suction dredger Niccolò Machiavelli.
