Turquie – Port de Filyos

Dredging works port of Filyos, Turkey

Dredging works port of Filyos

The port of Filyos dreamed of excelling in maritime transport. Jan De Nul Group helped to realise  this dream, amongst others by carrying out dredging works. As a result, Filyos now has the third largest port in Turkey and is the main export centre on the Black Sea.

Over a distance of more than 3 km, Jan De Nul dredged about 24,000,000m³ sediments, sometimes containing gravel. And all that in a period of only 18 months. For this project, we deployed several trailing suction hopper dredgers and a large suction cutter. To protect the harbour against external factors, we placed more than 21,000 X-blocks. Thanks to sound communication and clear planning, we made sure that the vessels could work together in an optimal manner, within the planned deadline. Once the works completed, the harbour had a freight capacity of 25 million tonnes per year.
