Envisan wins award for river transport

Every year, the Walloon 'Direction du Transport et de l'Intermodalité des Marchandises' (SPW Mobility and Infrastructure) awards a prize to a company that stands out in the field of river transport. This year that honour fell to Envisan, the environmental subsidiary of Jan De Nul. It was Walloon Minister for Climate, Energy, Mobility and Infrastructure Philippe Henry who presented the award to Envisan on the Day of Inland Navigation and Intermodality in Wallonia on 7 June 2023.

Envisan operates three valorisation centres to treat several contaminated soil types in Wallonia, specifically in Saint-Ghislain, Lixhe and Liege. Compared to 2021, the environmental division tripled its river tonnage to 300,000 tonnes, which is why it won this year's award. Transport via waterways offers a huge efficiency, is safer and easier to monitor. Dimitri Descamps, Regional Commercial Director of Envisan: "It is easier to track one movement of 1,200 tonnes than 40 movements of 30 tonnes per truck."

Envisan specialises in the remediation of contaminated sites. It remediates on site or transports the contaminated soil for treatment in one of its valorisation centres. In doing so, Envisan always keeps an eye on reusing the cleaned sediments in alternative applications to help build a circular world.
