Belgique – Assainissement de 2 sites de Carcoke à Bruxelles et à Zeebruges

Carcoke sites in Brussels and Zeebrugge, Belgium

Decontamination of 2 Carcoke sites in Brussels and Zeebrugge

The former Carcoke coking plants at the Lisseweegsesteenweg in Zeebrugge and in the port of Brussels left behind heavily contaminated industrial sites. Envisan and Jan De Nul Group were asked to help tackling the problem.

The Openbare Vlaamse Afvalstoffenmaatschappij (OVAM) ordered the demolition of the plant in Zeebrugge, the rehabilitation of both illegal tar dump sites and the decontamination of the heavily polluted side canal. Envisan and Jan De Nul Group took care of the illegal tar dumps.

On the Carcoke-Marly site in the port of Brussels, 100,000 tonnes of contaminated soil had to be excavated and decontaminated. In addition, the site had to be redeveloped into a new logistic centre, now operated as a Bpost distribution centre.
