Boom Oude Brandweerkazerne

Boom Oude Brandweerkazerne

The former fire station becomes a contemporary residential complex 'Quercus’ with 34 apartments, all around a central green area.

At the end of the 19th century, this inner-city site in Boom’s historical centre was home to a coal gas plant. After its closure in the beginning of the 20th century, the site became the property of the town council of Boom. In 1950, the factory buildings were transformed into a fire station, including a vehicle workshop and paint shop. The various activities of the past have resulted in considerable environmental pollution. In 2007, the town council decided to sell the site through a public tender and we took over the site, including the remediation obligation. Good to know: the town council of Boom was the first public authority in Flanders selling a brownfield through the fast procedure of a public tender for the private sector.
