Dredging and civil works in the Benelux and environmental works of Jan De Nul Group, want to focus on carbon-conscious actions to work towards a sustainable world with a sustainable growth of activities, by reducing energy consumption and CO₂ emissions. Therefore, since 2013, Jan De Nul NV has been the holder of a certificate on the CO₂ Performance Ladder. The current certificate is a level 5 certificate. In 2020, civil activities in the Benelux and all environmental activities of Jan De Nul Group also achieved the highest level 5. This Dutch initiative allows businesses to show their awareness and commitment to carbon reduction.
Below, all sections of the CO₂ Performance Ladder are explained.
Insight
Jan De Nul has formulated effective targets and measures to reduce CO₂ emissions. The GHG report (document 3A1) gives an insight into energy flows and consumptions of all offices, all warehouses, all workshops in Benelux of the supporting departments, including all dredging and civil projects in the Benelux and all environmental projects and valorisation centra in the EU for the year 2019. This inventory was verified by an independent body (LRQA Nederland) and certified on the 27th of march 2020.

Reduction
The carbon footprint (CO₂ emissions), the proposed objectives and the extent to which these are achieved were mapped out.
The approach to achieve those targets is described in the Energy Management Action Plan (see document 3B2).

Transparancy
Jan De Nul aims at being transparent in its energy reduction policy.
The participation of Jan De Nul in a government reduction programme is described in document 5C1.

Participation
Jan De Nul shares knowledge and experience on energy reduction with other businesses. The CO2 Performance Ladder provides a framework to lower CO2 emissions and make Jan De Nul’s environmental impact smaller. Jan De Nul participates actively in initiatives, undertakes own initiatives and sets up sector-wide programmes to drive innovation and reduce emissions.
